How to calculate percentage of an amount?
Use the percentage formula:

Method One

Tom saw a  bike for £150 with an additional  10% discount off how much did he get of the original price?

Convert the problem to the equation using the percentage formula: P% * X = Y ÷ 100 (percentage times X equal Y÷ 100)
 P = 10% and  X = 150
so the equation is 10% x 150 = 1500 ÷ 100= 15
Therefore Y =15
therefore Tom got £15 off the original price

Solution:
Y= is 10% of 150
Equation: Y = P% * X
Y = 10% * 150 =1500
Converting percent to decimal:
Y = 1500 ÷ 100 = 15
Y = 15

Method Two
find the 40% of 96

You divide your percentage by 100. So, 40% would be 40 divided by 100 . Once you have the decimal version of your percentage, simply multiply it by the given number. Pecenatge%  ÷ by  100 = answers  X Amount
40-100 = 0.4 x 96 = 38.40

40% of 96 = 38.40
